Madani Studies

Welcome to ICMS, a pioneering research and educational organisation in Malaysia, specialising in postgraduate programmes in Madani Studies. The word "Madani" originates from the Arabic adjective مدني, which means "advanced and civilized"—describing a nation that thrives spiritually, intellectually, and materially.

Madani is deeply rooted in the principles of the Al-Qur'an, the life and teachings of Prophet Muhammad (SAW), the Madinah Constitution and the rich legacy of Islamic civilizations. The Madinah Constitution, one of the earliest documented social contracts, exemplifies pluralistic governance, promoting coexistence, interfaith harmony, and mutual rights and responsibilities among diverse communities. In addition, Madani also draws upon the universal ethical values found in the world's major religions and civilizations.

Madani Studies is an interdisciplinary field focusing on holistic human development, integrating spiritual, moral, socio-economic, environmental, and governance aspects.  It is influenced by both classical and contemporary thinkers like al-Farabi, Ibn Khaldun, Siddiq Fadzil and Anwar Ibrahim.  A Madani society prioritizes human dignity, social justice, rule of law, knowledge culture, innovative technologies, and ethical governance, ensuring prosperous balanced progress in all aspects of life.

Our Mission

To Integrate Traditional Wisdom with Modern Innovation:- Synthesizing madani values (karamatul insan, 'adl, maslahah, rahmatan lil alamin) with cutting-edge disciplines such as AI, digital governance, and sustainable development.

To Cultivate Ethical Leadership and Holistic Education:- Developing visionary scholars, policymakers, and entrepreneurs who uphold the Madani principles of justice, prosperity, and moral integrity.

To Pioneer Interdisciplinary Research for Societal Advancement:-Conducting impactful research in Islamic governance, socio-economic equity, technological ethics, and environmental stewardship to address global challenges..
